The sports world is reeling from a spate of sudden heart-related incidents

Sergio Aguero

In a never-seen-before images, the last year witnessed numerous incidents of top athletes (soccer players, basketball players, cricket players, runners etc.) collapsing suddenly on the field in front of thousands of spectators.

On December 15, Argentine soccer player Sergio Aguero gave an emotional press conference in which he announced he would no longer be playing professional soccer.  Aged just 33, at the top of his career and considered one of the best strikers of his generation, Aguero told his fans and the world that he had to give up his beloved sport because of heart problems. On October 31, Aguero was struck with chest pains in the middle of a match and collapsed on the field. Rushed to hospital he was diagnosed with severe cardiac arrhythmia and, after weeks of testing, was advised not to play again.  “It is a very difficult moment,” he said, fighting back tears. Aguero was a proponent of the Covid vaccine and even went on TV to encourage teens to get vaccinated. His cardiologist has denied any link between Aguero’s heart condition and the vaccine, maintaining that Aguero suffered from heart palpitations at a young age.

In June, Danish soccer player, Christian Eriksen collapsed in front of 15 thousand fans in the middle of a Euro championship match against Finland. The 29 year old, who plays for Inter Milan and the Danish national team, suffered cardiac arrest. It took 20 minutes for a rescue team to revive him before they could transport him to hospital. It is unclear when and if he will be able to play again.

Aguero and Eriksen are just two high-profilers among many sportsmen who have been stricken with heart problems in the last year. An exhaustive report on the Israeli website “Zeman Emet” claims that 183 athletes (professional players, college players and coaches – the majority male) suffered heart problems this year (cardiac arrest, myocarditis and pericarditis). Of these, 108 died. Other outlets place the number of athletes who suffered heart problems closer to 300 and over. All the outlets provide detailed lists of the victims, with names and descriptions of the incidents.

Here are just a few of the athletes involved in such episodes :

Brandon Goodwin, 26 year old NBA player for the Atlanta Hawks suffered blood clots a short while after receiving the vaccine. The clots caused him extreme fatigue and back pains that made him unable to run and forced him to end the season early. “I was fine up until I took the vaccine,” he said.

David Wakefield, 27 year old cricketer who collapsed during training and suffered major cardiac arrest when his heart stopped for 26 minutes. It took six shocks with a defibrillator to get his heart beating again. He was diagnosed with myocarditis, treated in intensive care for three weeks and had to undergo extensive rehabilitation before he could walk again.

Fabrice Nsakala, 31 year old Congolese soccer player for the Turkish club Besiktas, collapsed on the pitch and was rushed to hospital.

Florian Dagoury, world record holder in static breath-hold freediving was diagnosed in December with myopericarditis 40 days after receiving his second Pfizer shot. He shared his experience on Instagram: “10 days after my second dose, I noticed that my heart rate was way higher than normal and my breath hold capacities went down significantly. I went to see a cardiologist and he told me it’s a common side effect of the Pfizer vaccine and it would pass. 40 days after, I had made no progress so I went to see another cardiologist and got diagnosed with myocarditis, pericarditis and Trivial Mitral regurgitation! There’s been a 30% decrease in my diving performance. My first thought and recommendation to freedivers around the world is to choose a vaccine which is done the old fashioned way like Sputnik, Sinovac, Sinopharm etc instead of those new mRNA vaccines.”

Michael Ojo, 27 year old basketball player, formerly with Florida State, collapsed during training in Serbia where he had played for Red Star Belgrade. He was rushed to hospital but died while undergoing resuscitation. .

Roy Butler, 23 year old Irish soccer player suffered a massive brain bleed and died 4 days after receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. His family reported that, within one hour of receiving the jab, he began to have severe headaches and the next day suffered from vomiting and convulsions.

Alexaida Guedez, 30 year old marathon runner from Valencia collapsed during a race and died 50 meters from the finish line.

Yusuke Kinoshita, 27 year old Japanese baseball player collapsed during training 8 days after getting the vaccine, He died a month later in hospital.

Xander Verhagen, Joppe Erpels and Yarno van Herck, three young Belgian cyclists aged 15-17 belonging to the same club, were hospitalized within three weeks of each other and diagnosed with myocarditis.

Jeremy Chardy, 34 year old French tennis player suffered such a bad reaction after  receiving the Pfizer vaccine that he was forced to put an end to his 2021 season.  He said: “I don’t know when I will play again…I regret getting the vaccine.”

Alexandre Kisonga, 37 year old Italian basketball player suffered multiple health problems after receiving the Moderna vaccine. He was diagnosed with severe myopericarditis and spent a month in hospital. He posted his story on Instagram because he felt that “there is not enough talk about the side effects of the vaccine.”

Cienna Knowles, 19 year old Australian equestrian star experienced blood clots in the chest after receiving the second Pfizer jab. ”It’s amazing how quickly I transformed from a super healthy nineteen year old who trains and rides horses every day into a person with lungs full of blood clots.”

Francesca Marcon, 38 year old Italian volleyball player fell sick with pericarditis after receiving her second Pfizer dose. She posted her response on Instagram: “I am not anti vax but I was never convinced about getting the vaccine. Now I know why. I wonder – is there no form of compensation for those who suffer health damage after getting the vaccine?”

The question to be asked is how is it that super-fit athletes, at the height of their abilities, who undergo regular and extremely thorough health/heart tests every few years, can suddenly collapse with cardiac arrest so severe that they die or are often forced to give up their careers temporarily or permanently. Since this phenomenon often seems to have occurred soon after the athletes received their Covid vaccine jabs, many are left wondering: could these heart problems be a consequence of the vaccine?

Former Southampton pro Matt Le Tissier has called for an investigation into whether the vaccine could have contributed to this phenomenon. Speaking to GB news he said, “in all the time I played, I never once saw any footballer leave the pitch because of heart issues.”
